TEMPORARY HOURLY FIREFIGHTER

Spokane County Fire District 8 will be testing to create an eligibility list for temporary hourly firefighters. This position performs functions of fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical treatment, operation of fire apparatus, and performs other assigned duties necessary to support the mission of the Fire District, subject to the assignment and direction of their supervisor, and in accordance with District policies, procedures, and standards. 

 

The District provides a full range of services to approximately 23,000 citizens in 110 square miles of beautiful urban, suburban and rural areas on the southern borders of the City of Spokane and the City of Spokane Valley.  The area’s many lakes, rivers, streams, mountains, and entertainment venues provide for a wide range of recreational and cultural activities.  The District personnel include: 25 career staff, approximately 80 volunteer staff, 14 part paid (temporary-hourly) employees, and a resident firefighter program with up to 16 personnel.  The District is governed by an elected three member Board of Fire Commissioners serving staggered six year terms.

 

 Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent.  Must have IFSAC Firefighter I certification or equivalent documented training.  Washington State EMT certification required.  College level coursework or degree desired in the areas of: Fire Science, Fire Command Administration, or any combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and abilities required to be successful in the position. 

 

 Written Exam and Physical Ability Testing:

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a Written Exam on Friday August 17th, 2007.  The top scoring 20 candidates will be invited to complete the Physical Ability Test on Saturday August 18th, 2007.  Current members of Fire District 8, in good standing, may receive up to 5 preference points added to the written score. Candidates will be notified in writing of their eligibility to participate in the written exam no less than 3 days prior to the scheduled exam date.
