03/09/10:  BoFC Meeting - The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners will be Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 6:00 pm at Station 82, 12100 E Palouse Hwy.  The public is welcome to attend.

 

12/2009:  Santa joined SCFD8 members as they visited families in the Ponderosa, Painted Hills, Bella Vista, Saltese, Morningside, Hangman Valley and the Moran Prairie neighborhoods.   

  

12/08/09:  Nick Henry, Mike Lamb, and Jeff Sevigney were promoted to the rank of lieutenant on 12/01/09.  Commissioner Greg Hesse administered the Oath of Office to Lt. Henry and Lt. Lamb on December 8th.  Commissioner Lee Boling also took his Oath of Office for his new six-year term which will begin January 1, 2010.

 

11/19/09:  Commissioner Dennis Ross takes the Oath of Office

Dennis Ross was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board of Fire Commissioners on November 16, 2009. 

Commissioner Ross brings over eleven years of volunteer firefighting and EMS experience to District 8.  As a former business owner, and currently as Vice President of Retail Operations for Aslin Finch Company, he is able to share his broad experience in  business operations with SCFD8.

10/04/09-10/09/09:  Fire Prevention Week, October 4 - 10, 2009.  SCFD8 members visited third grade classes at Mullan Road and Moran Prairie Elementary schools, and each grade level at Freeman Elementary School, to share the message "Stay Fire Smart! Don't Get Burned".  Parents, look for the educational materials that  were sent home with your children and ask them to share what they have learned about fire safety.

10/03/09:  Chipping & Composting Day, Saturday, October 3, 2009, was a huge success.  Members of Fire District 8 used a mini-excavator donated by Adams Tractor to fill three, 30-cubic yard containers provided by ABCO Wood Recycling with yard and garden debris brought to Station 82 by county residents.  Spokane County Master Composters hosted seminars showing just how easy composting can be.  Thanks to all who volunteered and donated equipment.  Thanks also to Spokane Regional Solid Waste System and Spokane Clean Air.

 

10/01/09:  SCFD8 is pleased to announce that Scott Malsom joined Fire District 8 as a Paramedic Firefighter on October 1st.  Scott comes to the agency with a diverse background in emergency services.

 

09/19/09:  SCFD8 members participated in Fill the Boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Saturday, September 19th.  Members collected donations at 57th & Regal to raise money to help local families who are dealing with the daily battles of Muscular Dystrophy.  The Spokane office uses funds raised to help provide medications, medical equipment, clinics, and an opportunity for children to attend annual summer camp.  Thanks to all who donated their time and money for this worthwhile cause.

08/06/09: SCFD8 members visited the Southside Family Aquatic Facility on August 6th to "recruit" future firefighters!

07/16/09:  SCFD8 is pleased to announce the appointment of Mitch Metzger to Division Chief of Support Services.  Chief Metzger combines his experience in fire service with a background in construction and project management.

 

06/16/09:  SCFD8 is pleased to announce the promotion of Tom Chavez to Medical Services Officer.  Tom joined the District in October, 2008, as a Paramedic/Firefighter.

 

05/04/09:  New Paramedic/Firefighter  SCFD8 is pleased to announce that Amanda Jordan joined the District in May as a Paramedic Firefighter.  Jordan was sworn in during the Board of Fire Commissioners meeting May 12th.

 

04/16/09:  Division Chief - Training  Spokane County Fire District 8 is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Hatley as Division Chief, Training.  Tom comes to SCFD8 with 23 years of fire service experience, the last 12 years with the City of Lewiston, Idaho, Fire Department.

 

04/02/09:  SCFD8 members made a visit to the Moran Prairie Library to share fire safety information to approximately 18 three to five year olds.  Lt. Bruce Ellison read My Fire Engine and firefighter Jared Balstad demonstrated donning the protective clothing and breathing apparatus worn by firefighters.  Firefighter Dan Manheimer and Paramedic Bill Curley were on hand to pass out fire helmets and stickers to the children.
