Residential Burning Program April 3 - 6 and 10 - 13, 2009.
At the November 6, 2008, Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency's Board of Directors Meeting, changes were adopted to the agency's outdoor burning regulations. The revised regulations will be effective May 1, 2009. For further information, visit www.spokanecleanair.com

BoFC Meeting - The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners will be Tuesday, January 13, 2009 6:00 pm at Station 81. The public is welcome to attend.

The Fire Danger in Spokane County is Low. If you have a written permit, burning is allowed subject to the conditions listed under the low fire danger. Rule burns are allowed for forest debris from property that is not improved. Campfires are also allowed. However campfires are not allowed on state land except in DNR campgrounds. This message is effective October 31, 2008 at midnight and will remain in effect until further notice. For further information visit DNR's website.

New Paramedic/Firefighters
SCFD8 is pleased to announce the hiring of four firefighter/paramedics for the District's new ALS program. Sworn in during the Board of Fire Commissioners meeting, November 10th were: Tom Chavez, William Curley, Zachary Greenfield, and Shayne Hanson.

Chipping & Composting Day - More than 50 members of the community visited Station 82 and brought their yard and garden debris for chipping. County residents also participated in seminars throughout the day on composting. Thanks to all who participated!

Officer Appointment
SCFD8 is pleased to announce the temporary appointment of Don Malone to Acting Captain - Station 85. Captain Malone has been with Fire District 8 since 2003, has served as a lieutenant at Station 85, and currently as an 820 officer for the District.

Station 82 Construction
Construction is under way on the roof rebuild at Station 82. Watch progress as the station receives its new roof.

IRS Compliance Check
The Internal Revenue Service recently completed a compliance check on the District's reporting procedures for the tax year 2006. It was determined that all was in order and an employment tax examination will not be conducted at this time.

New Division Chief
SCFD8 is pleased to announce the temporary hiring of Mitch Metzger as Division Chief of Support Services. Mitch will assist in public education, public relations and facilities, and will continue to serve as an 820 duty officer. Chief Metzger was sworn in during the Board of Fire Commissioners Meeting on September 9, 2008.

New Hire Oath of Office
SCFD8 is pleased to announce the hiring of Nathan Hawley as our newest fulltime firefighter. Nate was previously a temporary-hourly employee and started as a fulltime member on August 1, 2008. Firefighter Hawley was sworn in during the August 12, 2008 Board of Fire Commissioners meeting.
