INFORMATION FOR PROPERTY OWNERS AND INSURANCE COMPANIES

When you are insuring your home and property, your insurance carrier will want to know what fire department responds, the closest station and if there are hydrants close.  If you know you live in Fire District 8 , the following is some information to assist the insurance company.

  • Fire Class Rating - Fire District 8 has an ISO class rating of 5. Your rating may be higher if your property is greater than five miles from a fire station.

  • Nearest Hydrant - Go out and look for your nearest fire hydrant. Most hydrants are located on street corners and in the center of the block and are spaced approximately 500 - 1000 feet apart.  If you are in an area with no hydrants, the District will send water tenders to supply water during a fire.

  • No Hydrant Area - Fire District 8 operates three 3000 gallon water tenders in areas without hydrants and all response structure engines carry 1000 gallons of water.

  • Station Location - If you are not sure which station is closest, check our Station addresses. To see how far away from the nearest fire station you live, use MapQuest or Expedia. These services allow you to enter two addresses and get a distance. The other option is to drive the route.

  • Auto Aid and Mutual Aid - The District has Auto Aid Agreements with Fire District 3 for the Ridge at Hangman development and Fire District 1 (Valley Fire) for the Bella Vista, Park Hills and Valley View Hills areas. The District has mutual aid agreements with all other fire departments and districts in Spokane County.

Auto-Aid - crews are dispatched automatically at the initiation of the incident.
Mutual Aid - resources are requested by the incident commander and dispatched.
  • Station Staffing - All stations are staffed 24 hours per day.  The District uses a combination career and volunteer response system.

GREATER THAN FIVE MILES FROM A FIRE STATION

Some insurance carriers will raise your rate if your property is greater than five road miles from a fire station. If you feel you may be within the five miles, the distance can be measured using a GPS device while driving the route to the station. Contact the District if you need and exact distance.
