Spokane County Fire District 8 offers men
and women the experience of fire department activities beyond the volunteer position.
Resident Firefighters are paid part-time firefighters, with the duties and
responsibilities of professional firefighters. The Residents' main responsibilities
include responding to fire and medical calls, operating apparatus, public education,
public relations, continuing training, general station and apparatus maintenance, and
covering of shifts. |
| At each of the four stations there are three
residents, each responsible for their own shift. Residents operate the same shift
schedules as the full-time firefighters, with the time from 8am to 5pm being free for
career advancement (such as school or work). Residents begin their shifts at 6pm and
continue until 8am on weekdays. On weekends, residents are required to staff the stations
on a 24 hour shift. The District, in addition to pay and training, provides a residence
for the resident firefighter. |
